Do not fear! This is normal, and very common.

You may notice that you have just written a blog post, and you find the post in Google results. You are able to click the link and successfully connect to your site.

You may find that after a few hours, your link is simply vanished from the search results for the same search term. This is common, and happens usually because Google is taking all the links of your site relating to the same topic, and then reindexing them as a group of links for your site. You may notice whilst one of your links is missing, a number of other links from your site are vanishing as well.

You should notice that the search results are back in the correct place in the SERPs after around 12 hours.

So if you are noticing that your new content is vanishing from the search engines, do not fear, as there are posts on the net on other popular SEO blogs which predict that Yahoo follows by the same rules, and settings, along with other search engines, which I am not sure of the name of at this time. It is most probably Live Search though.

Keep your post frequency daily if possible. Schedule posts for the next day if you can. I missed a post yesterday because I had to get up at 6am and go to Thorpe Park for a college trip. I forgot to make an additional post on Sunday, and therefore no post was made yesterday.

I am planning on making a few 2 posts a day for a few weeks soon, as I want to add a lot more content to the blog, as if I update it daily forever, I will only make 365 posts a year, which is not as much as could be done. I want to have atleast 1000 posts a year, all of unique and good content which is written by me, and this can be done. I just need to set myself time limits and special times of the day to work on the blog. You should do the same for your own blogs and websites, and with this you will notice a nice growth of content, without spamming it. Just keep a few hours between posts, and don’t post them directly after eachother. Leave atleast 4-6 hours gap between the posts, depending on how many posts a day you are planning on making.

Obviously if you have a picture posting based blog, similar to Icanhazcheezburger, then you need to update your blog a few times a day. Just be sure to leave a number of hours between posts, and then bookmark them on all major social bookmarking sites for a burst of traffic to the post for a few hours, and then you can make your next one when the traffic is dying down, and go through the same process again. This gives you continuous burts of traffic right throughout the day, and at the end of the day you will be gaining hits on all 3-4 posts that you have made from all different sources, just not in a large burst.

It works well, and I need to do it for this blog, and I encourage you to do the same. Its great seeing hundreds of people browsing your site, and it gives you a lovely number of ad impressions and loads more to help recieve some cash for the hard work you are putting into your website, and projects online, the same applies to myself.

This depends entirely on the website in which you have. You have to understand the differences between CPM and CTR.

CPM is Cost per Thousand Impressions. And it simply means you get paid per thousands views of an advert on your website.

CTR is Click Through Rate, and this means you get paid per Click of an advertisement on your site.

You have to work out which is best for your site. You may have a number of Google Adsense adverts placed on your site and recieve about 5000 pageviews a day. You may not get a single click. This will mean you earn nothing from Adsense, as they very rarely pay for CPM.

You must understand which is better for your site. If you are recieving a load of impressions and no clicks, you need to rethink your tactics, and change to a CPM approach.

Adsense is your best choice for CTR.

Clicksor is good for CPM

If you have a site which recieves more than 2000 Unique Visitors a day, try out Tribal Fusion. They are a very good paying CPM service, and one day I hope to have those adverts placed on this site. Just need to have a large amount of more visitors per day.

Do some experiementing. Test out a week each for CTR and a week for CPM. Compare the results, and check how many impressions you get compared to clicks. Once you understand the type of traffic you get, you can manage your revenue generated.

Thanks for reading.

Links are still important to search engines. The three major search engines were asked what the main factor of increasing your SERP was.

The links that your page contains are what helps the most. Your relevant keywords came second. You must make sure that you are linking to a number of different sites, but they must also be linking back to you.

You must also make sure that you have a number of links to different areas of your own website, such as the sitemap, and so on.

The sitemap itself will have links to all pages on your website. This is especially useful for your SERP.

You will also find that if your links are SEO friendly, and have keywords in them, you will have a much better chance of increasing your SERP.

If you link to sites, you can show it with Wordpress Plugins if you have a Wordpress blog. You can check the links page of this website to see what I mean.

There is a chance that the site will notice you are linking to them, and will reward you for the backlink, by either visiting the site, and leaving a comment, or linking back to your site from their own site, which will give you a backlink to increase your Google PageRank.

Links will not be disappearing of the face of the web anytime soon. Keep linking to resources, keep linking to your own pages, and keep linking back to your site from other websites, forums, blogs and much more.

Your SERP will improve, and you will notice the changes in just a short time.

Hope you enjoyed these tips.

So, you already know about using the aLinks plugin for Wordpress, which is downloadable from here. But what about other ways to publish your affiliate links?

You may have noticed that I have made a couple of posts which are based on advertising some referal links and so on. These are usually to track stats of who I have referred, and sometimes they are advantageous to me, but I will only ever promote something here which can help you too, such as the SEOBum contest where you can win $2000 worth of prizes.

So, what else is there? Well there are some ways which you may not have thought of before. Such as:

Banners

Banners and other advertising images can be used to promote affiliate products. You will find that a lot of stuff being sold on Clickbank does not supply you with images and so on to help promote their items. You have to be creative and do it yourself. A good way of doing this is with banner images. You can also use different sizes, ranging from the small 125×125 images or even the button images up to a full 160×600 banner if it is a really high paying one and offering you successful sales with a high conversion rate, or you simply want to help promote it. You can get a decent design done for you on a forum like Digital Point for like $20 or so, and the results will be pretty good quality. If you are really dedicated to advertising a service you can get a professional design made.

PPC Marketing

There will probably be more posts about this in the future, but this is a good way to promote your affiliate links. I have to say I only just learned about this properly from a topic on SEOBum which was really useful. Say you are promoting a web company that pays $100 per signup of their service. You host ads via Adwords or something advertising the service paying $0.10 per click. You get 100 clicks and out of that 2 people sign up for the service. A very low amount, but look how you still make a $190 profit. The conversion rate can be as low as 2% and still provide you with a large amount of profit from each sale made. It sounds easy, but you have to make something good, as 2% conversion rate is actually very good and will be hard to achieve if you do not how to maximise the potential of the advertisement, make it professional and make sure people will want to click it and sign up for the service. Anyways like I say, I will be going into this in more detail in future posts on the blog.

So thats it. There are a lot more out there. Got any good ones? Post a comment here and let us know your thoughts, and I will make a blog post about it, and put a link back to your site. I love to hear from my readers knowing what they think and learning from them too, so lets share our knowledge and make some good posts here!

Thanks for reading!

Since my post about my Alexa rank being under 800,000. People have been messaging me about it.

It seems a lot of people think that Alexa rank is accurate. This is not the case. Only the people who have the Alexa toolbar installed have an effect on the Traffic. A lot of traffic rank can be generated from your own accessing of the site if you have the toolbar installed yourself. But past 500,000 this doesn’t do much.

A site with 100 Unique Visitors a day can achieve a ranking of 300,000, depending on the amount of pageviews made by each of the users.

The websites that are higher than 5,000 Alexa rank all the way to 1 however are calculated correctly. But all sites after that are calculated by people with the toolbar installed.

This kind of explains why you may have a lot of Indian users accessing your site. A large percentage of the Indian community have the toolbar installed, and this affects the % of Indian users accessing your site a lot.

So, if you really want accurate Alexa stats, simply gain a rank higher than 5000. It’s not that difficult. Ok, perhaps it is. Maybe one day this blog will achieve that much of a rank. With time, effort, and a huge amount of good content, it is possible, and I know it! I will keep going until I achieve what this blog is truly capable of, and you should do the same for your own site(s).

What are Session IDs?

Sessions IDs are particular areas of a URL which show the session in which you are accessing the site at. This adds up and the Session ID changes everytime you access the website. This is because you are entering a new Session. Forums use this quite a lot. You may notice that when you go to “Recent Posts since your last visit” page or alike on a forum, you will notice that the posts and topics shown are only the ones being made or modified since you last logged into the forum. This is because you have a new Session ID, and this is automatically created when you log in to the forum.

So what is the problem with them?

They don’t work well on other types of sites basically. Forums they seem to be fine, and not cause any problems, but on a blog like this, or a normal site with a few webpages is going to cause problems. Basically, GoogleBot and other bots from search engines struggle to understand that a session ID is part of the same page. This means they will think that a page is different from what it actually is. This is fine on a forum because the topics etc are still viewable and accessible no matter what. However, on a blog you may have a URL with www.blog.com/?p=1 or www.blog.com/post-category/post-name/ if you followed my “Making Wordpress More Search Engine Friendly” Post.

With a Session ID, new parts of the URL are being created, and this can cause problems, as the search engine bots will not think it is the same page, and then if they add that to the search engines instead you have a problem.

But doesn’t that give me two links, which is better?

No. Well.. sometimes. But it will sometimes become confused and replace the one you already have. And when you try to access it, you will have more problems. Because the Session ID is new, the page will fail to load, and you will most probably hit a 404 error page.

Solution

Do not use Session IDs. It is as simple as that. Unless you have a forum of course, because well… you kind of need them.

But if you really do need to use Session IDs for any purpose. Be sure to set up a 301 redirect.

A very common question which I see a lot on webmaster forums, and also being asked on MSN, is how often should a blog be updated.

The answer depends on the type of blog that you have. I have noticed that there are different times between post updates for different topics and much more.

For example. A site like this, a marketing blog with SEO Guides. I have found the best way to update this site is a post a day.

A post a day is very good for a lot of blogs. Gaming blogs, webmaster blogs and so on. Things that would have rather in depth posts of about 500-1000 words, perhaps more.

I have found that if you have a blog which adds videos etc to your posts, or pictures, you will need to update a lot more.

Why is this? Well the answer is simple. Imagine you do a post a day on a blog posting about images from games. You upload one image a day in a good detailed post, with the image, a download link, description, what game it is from and so on. Now go forward a year, and notice that you only have 365 images on your site. The same problem applies for videos. This is not enough, with the huge amount available on the net. I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of gaming images floating around the web.

The only way to get lucky with a post a day on these sites would be for a very good image, high def, very high resolution, or a very high def video.

You will have to think about what is on your blog, and then decide how often you feel the site should be updated.

If you think your going to miss a day, make sure you use the queue feature to make your posts publish at particular times when you might not be around to post them.

Google webmaster tools is a useful way to check some interesting information about your website. The statistics and information they display are different from that of Analytics however. This is more to do with the links back to your site and so on.

In a previous post, I explained that using the link:domain.com command in Google, and Yahoo was a good idea. In Yahoo it is, but in Google, you will not see all results and to view all the sites linking to you which are affecting your pagerank, you must view them in Google Webmaster Tools.

It is free to sign up to, and you can use your Google Mail to login to it, as with other Google services.

Adding your site is easy, and you can verify it by uploading a html file to your server with the particular name given. You can also add your sitemap if you are using one. You can obtain a sitemap from “Google Sitemap Generator”. Tap it into Google. Also you can view my post about Sitemaps by typing sitemap into our search bar at the top of the screen.

So, let us go through what is available to you once your site is added, verified and crawled by the infamous Googlebot.

The Diagnostics page allows you to view errors in which the Googlebot had. Any pages which couldn’t be indexed will be listed. This allows you to understand why your pages are not appearing in Google and allows you to sort out the problem so all your site pages can be indexed by Google and other search engines if they are having the same problem, which would probably be the case if Google cannot index them.

You also have a mobile error page, and a content analysis, which allows you to see any problems with the content on your site which may be stopping pages from being indexed etc for any particular reason.

Statistics

On the statistics page we have some really useful information. Firstly we have the Top Search Queries. This is useful for seeing which keywords are searched to view your site, and what ranking you are for that particular search. For some random reason, I am listed for “Spectral Tiger Loot card” which is actually on my other site, but hey, they got the idea. You are also able to download the data which can be useful for displaying it somewhere or sharing it or simply keeping it for statistical purposes.

The next part tells you what Googlebot sees when it accesses your site. This is good for making sure Google is putting your site in the right place in their search engine, and remember the bots from other search engines are probably seeing the same thing.

This page shows the external links to your page. Mine hasn’t updated yet, so I am guessing it takes a day or so to update.

It then shows you the keywords which are on your site, and then the keywords on external sites which link to your site. It is good if they are the same type of keywords, as this means your site is being promoted in the right places which are relevant to your site. Mine are pretty good, and match some exactly, so I am pretty happy with the results for now.

On the next page we have Crawl stats. This is the stats which allow you to view how many pages are crawled a day, and also see how long it takes to load a page in milliseconds and so on. There are decent graphs showing the results too, which can be saved to keep for statistical purposes.

This page also tells you your PageRank. Mine is “Low”, which sucks, but I hope to get this much better in the future as I am currently in the process of advertising the site heavily. It also tells you the page which has the highest pagerank for each month your site has been live, which is useful. My Amazon Associates program post(The first one) was the most pagerank beneficial in August, which is a surprise. I expected my “Screw eBay” post which got 2k views to be the best. But Its not about traffic, so I guess someone linked back to the post or something. (Thanks!)

On the next page you have Index stats. Below is a list of what you can search for. They are common google terms/functions or whatever you want to call them.

site:

Indexed pages in your site

site:www.domain.com

link:

Pages that link to your site’s front page

link:www.domain.com

cache:

The current cache of your site

cache:www.domain.com

info:

Information we have about your site

info:www.domain.com

related:

Pages that are similar to your site

related:www.domain.com

These can be useful for finding important information about your site, and the related link is good to see your competitors and how you can improve against them and beat them in the SERPs.

The next page is the Subscriber Stats, and this is useful for linking with your Feedburner account, which amazingly is also owned by Google. (Well I’ll be danged..) I still need to add mine. I might as well get round to it. It saves logging into Feedburner to view my subscriber stats.

The next section is Links. This is self explanatory really. It goes over external and internal links to your pages, and then general sitelinks.

The next section is Sitemaps, and this allows you to add the sitemap of your website. If you have a Wordpress account, you can use Google SiteMap generator to make your own sitemap and it should be at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Then finally we have the Tools section, which supplies you with useful tools to help your monetization and so on.

You have a Robots.txt analyser, which detects which URLs are being blocked by your robots file and why, along with other modifications you may have made to the robots.txt file and the effects that they have on both the site and how crawlers add pages from your site when they visit it.

You can create a robots.txt file choosing which options to place inside it. Good if you are not aware on how to make your own robots.txt file, which is pretty easy to do. I will write a post on this blog on some good things to put into your robots.txt file to make it useful and allow/disallow particular directories, although the information is easily obtained with a google search.

You can enhance your own 404 pages with a custom one perhaps matching your site. If you use Hostgator, don’t use this. Go to yourdomain.com/404.html and follow the instructions at the bottom on how to create your own 404 page. It is a lot better than Google’s one.

You can set a geographic tag if you want to target visitors in a particular city or country in the world rather than the entire world.

You can use enhanced image search to make images on your site contain keywords, tags, labels and so on and be easier to locate in Google images and maybe bring more traffic to your site from people browsing pictures on your site through Google images.

You can manage site verification. This allows you to choose who is the verifier of the site, and assign or reassign any particular verifiers of the website. Do this to people who actually run and have a big effect on the site, not your visitors or people helping out.

Set the crawl rate to choose how often Google crawls your site. By default you get medium.(Normal). You can’t choose faster unless it becomes a factor of how bots crawl your site. This feature doesn’t need toggling unless the faster option becomes available, then I suggest using it, as it becomes a factor. Just be sure to only do it on a site which has pages being constantly updated or added such as forums, blogs and so on.

You can associate a preffered domain for the site. This is useful for showing the www at the start of your domain or not in search results.

And finally, you can remove pages that are in Google, from the search results. This is useful if a page has been added that no longer exists on your site, or you simply do not want Google advertising that page. If you do not want Google adding the page again, I suggest adding a line in your robots.txt saying so. You can find out how to do this in my future post, or simply search around on Google, or using the Google Webmaster Tools magical robots.txt creator. :p

And that’s about it. Hope you enjoyed the post, and now know how to make the most out of Google Webmaster Tools. I know for sure I will be using it a lot more in the future. It has proven useful for me as it has done for many webmasters.

I was supposed to post once I reached the top 1 million, but I forgot to do it. I have now achieved an Alexa Rating of 770,758. This is pretty good, and much better than when the site was continously in a state of 2million to 3million.

So what is the target of GetSomeCashOnline? Well it is to get into the Top 100k. I will hopefully achieve this, but this can only be done by you, the visitors. Alexa is calculated by the traffic recieved by the site. I believe for it to count you need to have the Alexa Toolbar installed, but I do not know for sure if this it true or not.

Our rating is getting better and better, but it could be a lot better. I guess the main problem is the fact that there is still not many places linking back to this blog. Google is showing 1840 results for getsomecashonline.com, which is much better than it was, but as said this can also be improved a hell of a lot.

Is Alexa Ranking good for a site?
Yeah, I think it is. A lot of people say it isn’t, but I disagree. It can be very useful for when you are attempting to sell your site, or get it an appraisal.

Also, if you are doing Sponsored Reviews on your blog, or PayPerPost, you will notice that they show how popular you are in Alexa to potential buyers. So a higher Alexa rank will obviously increase your chances of getting a review request.

So apart from Alexa Ranking, whats up?
I am a little worried about the lack of backlinks going to Getsomecashonline.com. Yahoo is showing 579, but Google is only showing 2. I have no idea why, and I don’t see how Google can not be adding atleast 100 of the pages which contain working links to the content on my site.

Backlinks help improve the PageRank, and without a good amount of links in Google, this is leaving my PR at a measly 1. It was 2 before the update. No idea how that was obtained with 2 links. They are not even high enough sites to have that much of an effect on the site that much. Well, I don’t think they are anyways. MyBlogLog may be.

Anyways, you can check how many backlinks Google has given you by typing link:yourdomainhere.com into Google. Yahoo has there own way of doing it. I personally access it via the link on DNScoop when viewing my site value, as I am unsure how to do it with a command in the search bar. If you do know, please leave a comment. Ta.

Oh and by the way, I fixed the keywords here, so they should help bring in some extra traffic for our search results in Google.

I am also working on getting a new Header Logo installed. A proper one. I tried with this lady, and other people for each colour viewed, but I think I will design one good one, and just have a different text colour emitted for each colour chosen with the colour chooser on the navigation bar to the right of the links.

Alright, enough rambling on. Thanks for reading. Make sure you get your Alexa Ranks sorted out. It helps, and we all know it. We just don’t want to admit it!
